Last week we saw Larian Studios pushing out massive Baldur’s Gate 3’s Patch 5 which had many players speculating or even some players were very sure that we were going to see a game expansion or some DLC. However, this is now confirmed by the Lead System Designer Nick Pechenin from the Larian Studios that as of now they have no plans for any DLC and will keep on improving BG3 through updates and patches.
This was revealed when I read an interview with several key people from Larian by a Japanese gaming magazine 4Gamer where they interviewed Nick Pechenin, lead system designer, Chrystal Ding, associate writing lead, and Graham Ross, lead cinematic artist.
When Nick Pechenin was asked about the future development of BG3 and the possibility of the release of a DLC, Nick told the interviewer that there are no plans to release any DLC and will focus on improving BG3 through patches and other means. Below is a snippet from the interview:
Interviewer: Please tell us about the future development of BG3, including the release of DLC.
Pechenin: As of now, there are no plans to release any DLC. Right now, we’re focusing on improving BG3 through patches and other means.
In the same Interview Nick also shed light on the improving work-life balance at the studio and how they managed to prevent employees from working significantly over time since the development of Divinity: Original Sin 2.
Mr. Pechenin: This time, we built a system to manage working hours to prevent staff from working significantly overtime. I can say that our work-life balance has improved considerably since we were developing Divinity: Original Sin 2.
There were also lots of talks about RPGs and other developments in the interview and is quite a read. You can read the full interview here.
